Okay, so I disappeared. What of it? Well, life got hectic and you guys didn’t hit me up and tell me what’s on your mind. Problem there, since I have not told you that I’m here, well then I guess I can’t blame you, right?
I have an excuse, well almost. I went on vacation y’all! Vegas Baby! Truth be told, it was business first followed by vacation. My Hubby and I didn’t take off during the Holidays so a little breather was just what the doctor ordered and it was amazing!
Neither he nor I had ever been to Vegas and I had never been to Southern California. We took in Hollywood the day after the Oscars and got to see folks breaking things down and putting the town back together. We even got to see them wheeling “Oscar” out of the theater! How cool was that?
It was a little sad to see them ripping up all that red carpet though. It seemed a bit wasteful. Heck, I’ve got a few spots in my house where I could use a little red carpet! No judgment though. I guess that’s Hollywood.
All in all, the visit was cool despite the rain. I thought “it never rains in Southern California?” Somebody told you wrong. But it did not rain on our parade. We of course did the cheesy tour of some of the Stars’ homes. The rain held off and we had a blast!
I didn’t get a whole lot of pictures but I did get this shot of the house Michael Jackson was renting when he died. That’s supposedly his second story bedroom window. Apparently the owner cannot sell the place as it has become somewhat of a shrine. RIP Michael. We love you.
Then we were off to Vegas! The drive was AWESOME! So “picturesque’ as my Mom said in her texts back to me. No, Mom was not with us. Don’t judge me! Maybe next time.
Anyway, we had a great time in Vegas. Won a little money, lost a little money, had some good food, visited with family and friends and walked the strip. Lots, and lots of walking the strip. You definitely need to have comfortable shoes in Vegas.
I spent most of the time with my mouth open, staring up at all the huge, tall casinos. What a crazy place. Folks were walking around with drinks in hand at every turn. I have never been anywhere like it. And yes, I highly recommend it. You have to do it at least once! We will likely return.
So, anyway, I will get on to the important stuff like, did I work out in during this hiatus? What did I eat in the land of the big buffet? Did I eat healthfully during my time off?
Well, hubby likes to get a work out or two in when we travel. (More on that in another post.) Honestly, I think he just likes to compare gyms to what he has at home but that’s just me.
Anyway, he embarrassed me just enough for me to drag myself out of bed and go to the gym with him. I sometimes need a nudge while on vacation but I go on automatic pilot once I get in the gym. We both had good workouts and felt better for it.
We basically hit up a little bit of cardio, abdominal work and lunges. Something about lunges always gets me going. They are a great movement for the lower body and they get the heart rate going too. It’s a good, go to move in a pinch. We were just looking for a quick pick me up so it was all pretty good.
As for food, we didn’t fare too badly. Since we stayed in a timeshare for the majority of the trip, it was easy to buy a few supplies. We have this thing about Wally world. At the pace we’re going, we are likely to stop at this joint in every state in the union!
Anyway, during a typical 1 week vacation, we usually get some breakfast foodstuffs and something to cook a dinner or too. The rest of the dinners we eat out.
So our breakfast tends to be fairly healthy, think eggs, egg whites, oatmeal, turkey bacon, avocado, bananas and other fruit as well. Sometimes we have chicken or ground beef with the eggs and very occasional toast if there is anything GF for me or if we bought hamburger buns for him.
We did okay for breakfast and ate reasonably healthy snacks in between like fruit, nuts and protein bars. Honey travels with his protein powder so there’s that if you need it.
As for dinner, we did the Aria buffet twice! My family did a little research for me and discovered it was highly recommended as a good spot for those with food allergies. I’ve been diagnosed as gluten sensitive so I need to be careful about what I eat. Buffets are particularly difficult to navigate but this place was very accommodating. The chef came out and let me know what was free of gluten and what was off limits. Oh, and they had fresh steamed crab legs! That was the smart choice which I discovered during my second dinner there. I would have taken a picture, but, well, sorry, I was kind of busy.
I didn’t eat a ton of bad things, just a ton! Okay, a few more calories and carbs than usual, but we walked it off right? I know I was not really good. I did do a lot of walking so that offset things a teeny, tiny bit. I’d love to say I worked it all off, but, well, I didn’t. But I didn’t do too much damage. This last minute trip caused a slight hiccup but I should be able to adhere to my program from here on out.
So, that’s about all she wrote. Not too worse for the wear. Uh oh, I did forget one thing. Well, a couple of things. I might have had a cupcake or two. In my defense, what self-respecting celiac, DH sufferer would pass up a red velvet, gluten free cupcake?! Not I, not I.
All I can say is that I’m human. The reality is: I did not have my head entirely in the game yet. I told you that was important.
And I knew I still had a couple of weeks to play with before I had to buckle down. And further, I had already lost a few pounds prior to the trip.
Yeah, yeah, excuses, excuses. No need to beat myself up, and neither should you. I made mostly smart choices and a few bad which I can live with and survive.
Well that’s that. Getting my head in the game. I will keep you posted.
Always,
MMM
