About

Motivational musings of a middle-aged muscle maven. . .

Hey, what’s that about?  Well, I’ve mmm2 S (425x319) (2)been a health and fitness enthusiast since I “found myself” not quite twenty years ago.  I was lifting weights long before it was en vogue to do so.  Just call me one of those gym rats or muscle-head types because I certainly fit the category for a while.

My circle of fitness friends and I spent many a day and night, cheering on our fellow gym buddies in their quest to achieve their personal best and victory in numerous bodybuilding competitions.  Can you imagine your social life revolving around bodybuilding shows and hanging out with other muscle-heads to talk about working out, health and fitness over a healthy (okay maybe not always so healthy!) dinner?  How about getting up at 4am to go work out or spending your Saturday morning (or any time of day or night for that matter) on a “gym date”?  It almost sounds funny when I look back at it but I wouldn’t change a thing.  Bodybuilding changed my life along with my body and those many outings to competitions and talking to like-minded individuals about health and fitness shaped who I am today both figuratively and well, figure-atively!

Fast forward to today.  If there is one thing I know about, it is losing fat and gaining muscle.  I have competed in Natural Bodybuilding shows and done personal training for many years.  I lived, breathed, drank, ate (boy did I eat), and slept bodybuilding for the better part of a decade and continue to learn and grow in this regard as I “age”.  I guess some might classify me as “middle aged”. It’s funny how you don’t feel that way when you actually get there.  What’s it supposed to feel like exactly?  Now that I think about it, I used to train many “middle aged” women when I was younger and they were phenomenal! I want to be like them as I grow up!

Anyway, I now find myself with other priorities and obligations and just a different amount of available time to devote to working out.  Wow, it sounds so much like a poor excuse seeing it in print, and you know what? It IS a poor excuse.  The good news is that the foundation and mindset that I cultivated years ago keeps me grounded and prevents me from allowing myself to get but so far out of shape.  The knowledge I have provides me with the tools needed to bounce back relatively quickly and get and keep my figure in check.

I feel so incredibly lucky to have been exposed to a bodybuilding lifestyle early enough in life to break some bad habits and take control of my life and figure.  It is truly empowering and a very good feeling.  Am I muscle bound?  Hardly, and no, I don’t live, train, or eat like a bodybuilder 24/7.  That is not the physique I presently desire nor the life I or my family choose to live. But, I do incorporate many of the choices around food and nutrition that bodybuilders tout and I do this more than 80% of the time.  This keeps me grounded and helps to keep the excess fat and weight at bay.

We all need encouragement, tips and advice and I aim to give my all to help everyone to improve their health, fitness level and physique.  My objectives are to inspire and motivate, lend support and advice, inform and serve as a one stop resource when you lack direction or have questions about how to get into your best shape ever.

This website is designed to help all to learn how to make more effective food choices and how to cook for improved fitness and health.  The emphasis is on achieving and maintaining a lean physique through diet and exercise.  I hope that you will benefit from spending time here.  If you find something useful, please tell all of your friends that this is the place to be!  And don’t hesitate to drop me a line if something is amiss or you desire additional information.  I live for this stuff and I am happy to accommodate!
